Ella Winter

Ella Winter was an American Communist and the wife of journalist Lincoln Steffens. After the death of Lincoln Steffens in 1936, she married Hollywood screenwriter Donald Ogden Stewart. She met Lincoln Steffens at the Versailles Conference where she was introduced to him by Felix Frankfurter. After marrying him, she became an active part of a Communist network controlled by Lenin's agitprop organizer Willi Münzenberg. While married to Steffens, she wrote a book titled Red Virtue which was published in 1933.

One of Münzenberg's men, Louis Gibarti, referred to Ella Winter as “one of the most trusted party agents for the West Coast.” She also knew Otto Katz well.
