Hurleston Junction

Hurleston Junction

Hurleston Junction (gbmapping|SJ625553) is the name of the canal junction where the Llangollen Canal terminates and meets the Shropshire Union Canal main line at Hurleston, Cheshire, England.

The location of the junction was originally part of the route of the Chester Canal (later the Shropshire Union Canal main line, before the Ellesmere Canal (later the Llangollen canal) was extended to reach it. This leads to there being a rise of 34' 3" from the Shropshire Union Canal main line to the Llangollen Canal. This rise is overcome by four adjacent locks.

At Hurleston Junction some of the water which flows along the Llangollen Canal is used to fill Hurleston Reservoir, used for drinking water.
