- Lanckorona Pact
Lanckorona Pact ( _pl. Pakt lanckoroński) was an agreement between Polish center (
PSL Piast ) and right wing parties (primarilyZwiązek Ludowo-Narodowy andPolskie Stronnictwo Chrześcijańskiej Demokracji and several smaller parties, known as theChristian Union of National Unity alliance or "Chjena") on 17 May 1923 inWarsaw . [Some sources incorrectly state that the Pact was signed inLanckorona . The name comes from the fact that the Pact was signed in the house of a representative of Lanckorona district - but in Warsaw.]The politicians of those parties agreed to pursue stricter
polonization policies and to increase the role ofCatholic Church in the state. [Wapiński 1980, 228.]The agreement led to the dimission of the government of
Władysław Sikorski and creation of theChjeno-Piast coalition on 28 May, with the new government ofWincenty Witos . Former Polish chief of state,Józef Piłsudski , also resigned his governmental posts in protest.Notes
