John Gerard Hanafin

John Gerard Hanafin

John Gerard Hanafin (born 27 September 1960) is an Irish politician and member of the 23rd Seanad Éireann for Fianna Fáil. He was elected by the Labour Panel. Hanafin is the brother of the current Minister for Education & Science, Mary Hanafin and the son of the former Senator, Des Hanafin. He was first elected to the Seanad in 2002 and re-elected in 2007. He is a former member of North Tipperary County Council where he represented the Thurles area. In an Article in the Tipperary Star in April 2008 it was reported that Hanafin would run for the European Parliament for Fianna Fáil.
