First Avenue Middle School is a school located in Arcadia, California. It is one of three middle schools in the Arcadia Unified School District. It first started out as a two classroom grammar school in 1907. The school runs by a trimester year. The school's mascot is a Spartan warrior and the school's colors are blue and gold.

In 2007, the school celebrated its hundredth anniversary. The current principal is Mr. Jeffrey Wilson and the current vice principal is Mr. Rodriguez.

Related schools

Most of the 6th graders come from Baldwin Stocker Elementary and Holly Avenue Elementary, and then some from the other elementary schools in the Arcadia Unified School District.

After 8th grade, students attend Arcadia High School.

Electives

PALs

PALs (Peer Assistance Leaders), led and taught by Melinda Soohoo, is an elective course only for students with good citizenship marks and a positive attitude. An example of a PAL's job is to entertain 6th graders with a variety of different games that the whole class can participate in and act in the American Smokeout play held usually in November. In order to qualify to become a PAL, you must obtain acceptable citizenship marks and fill out an application. Interviews are given to the students with the best applications. Students that pass the interview are invited to join the PALS program.

Student Council

There are two Student Council elections per year with only 10 students making it in from each grade level. The eight grader with the most votes becomes the President while the person with the second most votes becomes the Vice President. They meet every other Wednesday. Sometimes guests choose to attend the Student Council meeting. The Student Council plans events, makes motions to pass bills, and approves clubs.

Lunchtime Activities

There are a number of lunch activities that are planned and held by Student Council to celebrate a certain holiday or event, from Red Day and Wacky Hat day to Dancing and singing. In normal days, students might play basketball, 4-square on black top, and punchball in punchball courts.
