"Punish the Monkey" is the seventh track on the album "Kill To Get Crimson" by Mark Knopfler. The song was also released as a download single in USA and Canada.
The monkey in the song is the one that always comes along with an organ grinder, dancing to the sound of the street organ. It is a metaphor for an employee and his boss. "They'll punish the monkey and let the organ grinder go" could mean that higher-ups never take the fall.
