Hadleigh High School was named a Specialist Science School due to a number of new resources that were added to the facilities.

Up until Year 9, the following subjects are compulsory:

*ScienceIf students show exceptional ability in French in Year 7 they are given the opportunity to study German during Year 8 and 9 although they can drop this if they do not wish to pursue the subject at GCSE. Once GCSE options arrive, only English, Maths, Science and R.E are compulsory subjects. Drama becomes a separate subject at GCSE and Science is split into the three main areas: Chemistry, Biology and Physics.
Bands
In the local area, the school's Swing Band is very well known. The band can be seen at school concerts and have even gone to places such as
Disneyland Paris to perform for holiday goers.The school is very well known for its Musical talents and the amount of different bands there are.
Some of those bands include the Wind Band which consists of woodwind instruments, Voice Squad which is choir of about 30-40 pupils who are very popular around the surrounding areas of Hadleigh, Samba Band who play a mixture of Brazilian Samba music which is also becoming very popular.
Captains
The 'Captain' system is unique to the school. Once students enter Year 10 they are given the choice to apply to be a Form or Games Captain. Form Captains are a post of responsibility that are given to responsible students. Their role includes looking after and mentoring younger students, arranging activities and helping at extra curricular events. Games Captains arrange sporting activities for the rest of the students in the school. Out of those who apply, two students are offered the post of School Captain; the equivalent of Head Boy and Girl. The post is very demanding and includes arranging the Form/Games Captains, mentoring younger students and representing the school at various events and functions.
chool Productions
In the local area, the school is renowned for its productions that it performs every year in February. The productions always have a large number of auditionees as the event is considered very popular among the pupils. The productions have been running for a large number of years. Hadleigh currently makes use of the E2BN learning environment which is known at the school as HadNet. Students and teachers have access to e-mail, message boards and shared resources.
Awards
Before the school breaks up for the Easter Holidays, the school holds an awards ceremony during the End of Term Assembly, giving out many awards for outstanding achievement during the year. These awards mostly go to Year Eleven students who leave to begin study leave at this point. Awards include Academic Honours in particualr subjects, the Bayliss Award for Drama, the Lady Burton Cup for Outstanding Individual Achievement and the School English Award for excellent Achievement in English. The awards are distributed every year with a new participant.

The school does not have a sixth form attached to it. Because of this the large majority of students that want to pursue Higher Education continue to
Colchester Sixth Form College , Northgate Sixth Form orColchester Royal Grammar School .
