"The Secret of the Caves" is Volume 7 in the original The Hardy Boys book series published by Grosset & Dunlap. This book is one of the "Original 10", generally considered to be the best examples of the Hardy Boys, and Stratemeyer Syndicate, writing. Many consider this book, particularly the original 1929 edition, to be the best of the Hardy Boys stories.

Plot summary

The Hardy Boys investigate the presence of an eccentric hermit living in the caves along Barmet Bay.

The Hardy's Friend Chet comes over to show them his new metal detector. They find and dig Joe's lost toy fire truck, which he lost seven years ago. Then a little girl comes to the Hardy's and tells them about her missing brother. They go to the honeycomb caves.

There they meet a hermit and their boathouse is burnt down. They have to get a new spinning wheel for their Aunt Gertrude, so they go to the Palais Paris. There they break an antique spinning wheel. They then think the answer is the Palais Paris. So Iola, Callie, and the little girl work at the Palais Paris. and then Bill is found in the car extremely hurt. and then it is found out that two of the workers at the Palais Paris were found guilty. There is a secret tunnel that leads from the Palais Paris to the old house. The French guy planted a bomb on Chet's metal detector to try to kill the detectives.
