Pömmelte is a municipality in the district of Salzlandkreis, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. In the Bronze Age, around the late 3rd millennium BC, it was the site of an astronomical observatory with a function similar to Stonehenge, but built in a wooden construction , but probably no permanent settlement. The modern settlement is first documented in 1292 and probably was founded not too long before, probably by Sorbish settlers.
