- HMS Phaeton (1914)
HMS "Phaeton" was an "Arethusa"-class
light cruiser of theRoyal Navy launched on21 October 1914 atVickers Limited shipyard.On being commissioned, she was assigned to the 4th Light Cruiser Squadron of the
Grand Fleet , and between February and September 1915, was operating in theDardanelles in support of the allied landings at Gallipoli. On "Phaeton's" return to home waters, she was assigned to the 1st Light Cruiser Squadron of the Grand Fleet and on4 May 1916 she took part in shooting down theZeppelin "L 7". On31 May to1 June 1916 "Phaeton" took part in theBattle of Jutland . She survived the battle and in March 1918 was reassigned to the 7th Light Cruiser Squadron of the Grand Fleet. She survived to the end of theFirst World War , and was sold for scrapping on16 January 1923 to King, ofTroon .References
