Wigan Athletic "(caretaker)"Frank Lord (
13 March 1936 – June 2005) was an English footballer and manager. He played as a centre-forward, with a goalscoring ratio of nearly 1 goal in every 2 league matches. He holds two records for Crewe Alexandra for most hat-tricks in total (8), and most hat-tricks in one season (4).After finishing his playing career he moved into management in
South Africa with Cape Town City, and was later appointed manager at Hereford United. Three largely unsuccessful years atEdgar Street followed, and his only other foray in English football management was a brief spell as caretaker manager at Wigan Athletic in 1995.He later returned to South Africa, settling in
Cape Town where he was a scout for Manchester United.
