Safeway Goya was
lead singer of "The Nobodys ", who released an album onCapitol Records andEMI InternationalAugust 8 1984 . The album and the single from it are both called "No Guarantees". Goya produced the album and wrote the songs with guitaristAlex Blanc . The group's video, shot inAmsterdam ,Berlin , andLos Angeles , aired onMTV that year. The single, "No Guarantees," was used inMichael Apted 's movie "Firstborn", starringPeter Weller &Teri Garr (1984), and in episode 27, "Buddies," of the television series "Miami Vice ".Alex Blanc & Safeway Goya were in fact brothers. Prior to their taking those stage names they were Alex and Fred de Rafols. The brothers were of Spanish descent. They originally started their musical careers in
Davis, California in the early 70's under the group name "Squid". They also built a small recording studio in their mother's home on Anza street. Appropriately, it was name Anza Studios and Silversleeves Productions. Anza records produced a 45 in 1975Rain or Shine / "Kick Up A Storm" that was engineered by Anthony Dalla Rosa. Their album entitled "No Guarantees" featured Timex Burke on drums, Eric Garcia on bass and Ken Ypparila on keyboards. The albums playlist included "No Guarantees","I Scratch","They Didn't Offer Me You","Just One Of Your Legs", What Can I Do", I Am Helpless Without My Computers", Drops Of Water", "The Gang On Fortune Hill" and "I Don't Mind". Safeway Goya "Fred de Rafols " was also an Academic atJohns Hopkins University .
