Eddie Chin was born in Singapore 3 November 1948. He trained as a classical musician starting at three on violin. He studied piano and French horn which he played in the
Singapore Youth Orchestra . At 17 he moved to London where he studied at theLondon College of Furniture .He was more interested in music than art and learned to play the bass- first stand-up then electric. He joined a skiffle group, The
Pigsty Hill Light Orchestra , with Robert Greenfield on guitar.Whilst playing gigs with Alex Harvey and Matthew Cang, he joined
The Tourists . (See The Tourists or Peet Coombs for discography and tour details)When The Tourists broke up, he and Peet Coombs briefly formed the band Acid Drop. He then concentrated on writing with Matthew Cang. They released three albums and one CD thru KPM. This music is still being used in films, adverts, etc. worldwide. Eddie's solo work is also on CDs from both KPM and Carling.
When his father was dying, Eddie changed his name to Edi the way his father spelled it. He married in 1987 and moved to Spain in 1992.He is still in Spain, writing and playing music and having fun in his own studio. He's still married and his hair is still almost as long and dark. For exercise, he cares for two Senior cats (Picasso and Inspector Clouseau) and grows banana trees.
