census GR|2 of 2000, there were 7,976 people and 3,200 households residing in the neighborhood. Thepopulation density was 5,103/mi². The racial makeup of the neighborhood was 73% White, 11% African American, less than 1% Native American, 2% Asian, 11% from other races, and 3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 70% of the population.There were 3,200 households out of which 22% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45% were married couples living together, 15% had a female householder with no husband present, and 5% were non-families. 30% of all households were made up of individuals.
In the neighborhood the population was spread out with 19% under the age of 18, 20% from 18 to 34, 20% from 35 to 49, 16% from 50 to 64, and 25% who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 87.6 males.
