Hule fortress

Hule Fortress was a stronghold in Nukunuku, Tongatapu, during 1826. Nukunuku is a village of Noble Tu'ivakano( Uhi) and his community and it's located at the west side of the peninsula in Tongatapu (main island of Tonga). Nukunuku is located only few kilometres fromNukuʻalofa,capital of Tongatapu.

At about 1826, Noble Tu'ivakano and many other chiefs vehemently opposed and challengedthe validity of Taufa'ahau (George Tupou 1 )to the crown of Tonga. In addition to their opposition to Taufa'ahau, they opposed Christianity.As Christianity was a foreign religion which would contradict their own traditional religion.

Taufa'ahau stormed the Hule fortress, which known as, the Battle of Hule.As the Fortress was falling, ({Noble Tu'ivakano}) and the Supreme warrior/ commander of the fortress,Tanginoa switched side and support Taufa'ahau. Tanginoa was the son-in-law of Noble Tu'ivakano.

Taufa'ahau defeated Hule and those who opposed. Noble Tu'ivakano escaped and sought refuge in NukuOkinaalofa.Tanginoa ( Supreme warrior/ commander of the Hule fortress) escaped with his wife, Lolohea Tu'ivakano( Noble Tu'ivakano's first daughter) to Ha'akame (a village in the Eastern side of Tongatapu).
