Naboomspruit is a town in the
Limpopo province ofSouth Africa . It was established in 1910 aftertin was discovered here and laterplatinum . Naboomspruit is named after the profusion ofeuphorbia trees (naboom) growing on the banks of a nearby stream (spruit). The town was officially renamed Mookgophong in 2002, but the original name appears to have been retained since.Demography
According to the 2001 census conducted by Statistics South Africa, the population of the greater Mookgophong municipality, which incorporates Naboomspruit, is 20,027, of which 83.5% are African, 16.1% white and 0.3% Coloured and Asian. The white population is likely to have been undercounted, a common problem with the 2001 census.
