Purpose and Mission: Promoting the Economic Way of Thinking
"The mission of the Foundation for Teaching Economics (FTE) is to introduce young individuals, selected for their leadership potential, to an economic way of thinking about national and international issues, and to promote excellence in economic education by helping teachers of economics become more effective educators."
The flagship program of the FTE,"Economics for Leaders,"(EFL)is designed to promote both goals of the mission. The unique lab-school setting of the week-long,summer residential programs introduces rising high school seniors to the economic way of thinking through their morning interactions with staff and with 30 middle and high-school teachers drawn to the program by their interest in interactive, engaging classroom strategies.

In the afternoon sessions, students engage in leadership exercises while the participating secondary teachers continue to work with the FTE economics staff to refine their understanding of economic reasoning and their comfort with hands-on pedagogies.

Visitors to the site may also view streaming video of many of the EFL classroom activities.
Criticism"Italic text"The organization has a partisan view point from the right; with the objective to influence educational standards, and taking advantage the lack of professional development resources available to teachers in order to influence and spread their ideology of corporate globalism. The organization's board of directors, donors and entities associated, favor a public education voucher system.
