Haldimand House

Haldimand House

The Haldimand House and J'AS Hayes house is a building in Caledonia, Ontario, Canada for quite some time. Once one of the largest residential buildings in Caledonia, it was built by James Little as a stagecoach inn around 1842. The building was a hotel and an exchange tavern, and the campaign headquarters of William Lyon Mackenzie. Today the building is known as the Haldimand House, named after Canada's Governor General Sir Frederick Haldimand. The Haldimand House was in disrepair when it was a set of apartment buildings in the 1900s, and was repaired by Louie Louaosis, owner of the Oasis Drive-In (located next door to the Haldimand House). The Leosis Family repaired the building and restored it to its current tavern form. The Oasis now serves hot dogs and other grill style foods.
