Régis Genaux (born August 31, 1973) is a former Belgian football right fullback. He started his professional career at Standard Liège and then moved to England where he played for Coventry City and after one season he moved to Udinese in Italy. He had a lot of injuries during his career. Genaux decided to retire at the age of just 29 because of his injuries. He is a coach now of RFC Sérésien (23).

National Team

Genaux played 22 times with Belgium (27 selections). He seemed to be the successor of Eric Gerets in the national team but he was not selected for the World Cup 1994. He became a fixed value in 1995 and 1996, but Belgium failed to qualify for EURO 1996. With the arrival of Georges Leekens, he lost his place in the national team. He was also not selected for the World Cup in France at the expense of Eric Deflandre and Bertrand Crasson. Regarded as one one the best right-backs in Belgium in the nineties, he didn't make it to a big tournament, also missing EURO 2000 due to injury.

Trivia

* Régis is one of the three musketeers (himself, Philippe Léonard and Michaël Goossens) from Standard Liège, from whom much was expected but failed to deliver, especially in the national team. Roberto Bisconti also belongs to this promising generation.
* His brother, Terrence Genaux also is a footballplayer.
* Régis and Terrence are far related with Vivica Genaux, the American mezzo-soprano.
