Herbert Jones (jockey)

Herbert Jones (jockey)

Herbert Jones (1881–1951) was a leading British jockey.

He often rode horses for King Edward VII of the United Kingdom. In 1900 he won the British Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing ( which includes the Epsom Derby) one of only 15 jockeys to do so. He won the Derby again in 1909.

In 1913 he rode Anmer in the Derby. He was involved in a collision with Emily Davison, the suffragette, who was killed. Jones suffered significant injuries himself, including a fractured rib.

He retired in 1923.
