Gerrit Broekstra

Gerrit Broekstra (1 August 1941, Alkmaar, Netherlands), is a Dutch scientist and professor in the fields of organization behavior and Systems sciences at the Erasmus Universiteit in Rotterdam, the Northwestern University in Chicago and the Nyenrode University in the Netherlands.

Biography

Broekstra was born in 1941 in Alkmaar in Holland. He received an Engineer's degree in physics from Delft University of Technology and earned his PhD in physics at Eindhoven University of Technology in The Netherlands.

He has held positions in 1970s he is assistant Professor of Systems Theory at Delft University of Technology. In 1978 he was elected as Fellow of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS) in Wassenaar, the Netherlands. Since the 1980s he is a professor in organizational systems and behavior sciences at the Erasmus Universiteit in Rotterdam, the Northwestern University in Chicago and the Nyenrode University in the Netherlands. He also serves on the editorial boards of various international journals.

Broekstra has been organisationally active. His appointments include president of the International Federation for Systems Research from 1988 to 1992. He is on the Advisory Board of the International Institute for General Systems Studies. He is interim dean at the Rotterdam School of Management, director of the Rabo Executive MBA and executive dean of the Nyenrode Executive Management Development Center.

Work

During his career Broekstra has focused on themes such as intelligent organizations and organizational renewal. He has also initiated or spearheaded various educational programs.

Action research projects

Broekstra has been initiator of a range of consultancy and action research projects for multi-nationals such as Mercedes-Benz, Cosun, Arcadis and the Rabobank Group and has a substantial record in designing and facilitating Strategic Search Conferences for both business and government..
