The Breguet 270 was a French two-seat biplane all-metal observation aircraft of the 1930s.

Development

The Breguet 270 was designed to meet official requirements for a two-seat observational aircraft. The Breguet design team was led by Marcel Vuillierme and Rene Dorand.

The design was based on the use of high-strength steel. Steel replaced aluminum alloys; the short fuselage of the Breguet 27, the inline engine, the lower wing and tail boom were attached to a steel chassis. After testing, the prototype moved to Velizy-Villacoublay for more redesigns, including a more angular fin and rudder, and a lower-set tailplane. Operational history

The French army ordered 85 270s during 1930. In 1932 45 Breguet 271s, with a more powerful 485 kW (650 hp) engine, and larger useful load were ordered. Older 270s were modified for VIP liaison duties.
