Eastwood was built in 1954 as a
Baptist Church before theHouston Independent School District bought the property and admitted it the school as an Internal Charter in 2001. The convert|22000|sqft|m2|sing=on building was renovated and expanded for a re-adaptive use of a 175 student capacity. The renovation includes administrative offices, library, cafeteria, classrooms, science laboratories, computer laboratories and a multi-purpose room with a stage. The school was originally supposed to be a 9th grade school and feeder to the nearby Austin High School. After some consideration, the founders decided that the school would serve as a its own campus for advanced students.Since then Eastwood Academy has admitted students from all around the
Houston area; the majority enrolled are from nearby schools, some of which include Edison Middle School, Jackson Middle School, and Project Chrysalis Middle School. Students are required to apply since it is a charter school and are admitted based on their grade point averages,TAKS scores, Stanford Test scores, and interviews.Eastwood Campus Expands
The Eastwood Academy campus expanded when HISD purchased the property fronting on Dumble and across from the neighboring
Jack in the Box restaurant in Spring 2007. HISD plans to extend the fencing to encompass the entire area. Plans call for additional campus parking in the acquired area.Dress Code
Students are required to wear collared shirts, buttoned at all times, bearing solid, plaid, stripe, or check patterns.
Trousers, skirts, and shorts may be in any color except white and may be made of denim material [http://www.eastwoodacademy.org/wp-content/uploads/student_parent_handbook.pdf] .
