Sturgeons House

Sturgeons House is a Grade II listed country estate located west of the small village of Writtle in Essex, England. It was built in the 1830s in the Georgian style and has been the home of various high profile figures from the world of business. In recent times the house has been the home of the Principle of Writtle College, but in 2007 the college sold the property. Sturgeons farm is still retained by the college but looks set to also be sold off in the near future. The original estate encompased hundreds of acres of grounds, however the current estate maintains only around convert|6|acre|m2 of ground. Renovations are planned for the house itself, including an extension to the rear of the property.

Roman villa speculation

Excavation work in fields to the rear of the house has resulted in Roman pottery and metalware being discovered. Speculation that a Roman villa once existed on the site have yet to be verified.
