United States Army four star general who served as Commander in Chief,United States Southern Command (USCINCSO) from 1971 to 1973. He graduated from theUnited States Military Academy in 1937. Later in his career he was chosen to attend theUniversity of Wisconsin-Madison , where he received a master's degree in journalism in 1960. Underwood also served as executive aide toGeorge C. Marshall when he was a Presidential Envoy to China.
