Indian River High School (Delaware)

Indian River High School is a part of the Indian River School District, located in Dagsboro, Delaware in southern Sussex County. The school district is one of the largest in the State of Delaware. The district was formed in 1969 by the consolidation of several smaller districts including the Selbyville, Frankford, Dagsboro, Lord Baltimore, Millsboro, and Georgetown school districts.

Indian River High School participates in athletics in the Henlopen Conference and is one of the smaller high schools based on enrollment, thereby competing in the Henlopen South.

Indian River High School is one of two high schools in the district which also includes Sussex Central High School in Georgetown.

Football

Indian River High, (or IR) is noted for it football program. It has won a state championships, in 1988. Notable players that have played for IR are Grant Hastings, Therman Hagans, Milton Taylor, Frank Shockley, Daniel Shivley, John Buckley, D.J. Singleterry, Eric Givans, Phillip and Perry Townsend, Matt Wiliamson, Josh Gott, Josh Hitchens, Steve Alesi, Trevor Abbott, Nick Kmetz, Ryan Blatzeim, Luke Long, Cody Cooke, "Danny Bokinsky, Zach Kmetz", Shelby Dolby, Sean Lynch

MCJROTC

The Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. is one of the many other extracurricular activities. The Drill Team and the Rifle Team has won countless awards for parades and competitions and matches alike.

Wrestling team

The Wrestling team is currently taught by Mr. Jeff Windish and has competed in multiple state matches. Notable members included are as follows: Andrew Bokinsky, Mario Robles, Lukas Saylor, PJ Barch, Michael Magaha, DJ Singleterry, Nathan Cortvelesi, Perry and Phillip Townsend, Bo Wilkinson, Timothy Bokinsky

Volleyball

Volleyball is not one of the 'main' sports events, but still deserves their own recognition. The team has had an impressive record for the past couple of years. Notable players of this sport include: Shawna Jacobs, Sara Powell, Lauren Cook, Silva Gaona, Brooke Timmons, Sara Tyre, and Nidia Gaona.

Some of the other sports included at IR are Field Hockey, both Girls and Boys Basketball, Baseball, Softball, and Soccer.

Clubs included are: Band, Chorus, BPA (Bussiness Professionals of America), Wise Guys, The Leo Club, NHS (National Honor Society), Math League, Academic Challenge, FFA (Future Farmers of America), JDG (Jobs for Delaware Gratduates), Student Council, MCJROTC (As listed above), French Club, Science Olympiad, Soars, Yearbook Club, and KBG (Kick Butts Generation).
