Juan Díaz (baseball)

Juan Carlos Díaz (born February 19, 1974 in San José de las Lajas, Cuba) is a first baseman/designated hitter in Minor League Baseball who plays for the Seattle Mariners organization. Listed at 6' 2", 228 lb., Díaz bats and throws right-handed. He also has Major League experience having spent part of the 2002 season with the Boston Red Sox.

He also has played in the majors during the 2002 season for the Boston Red Sox.

Díaz is a veteran of eleven minor league seasons. He started his baseball career in 1997 with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, playing for them two years before joining the Boston (2000-2002), Baltimore (2003), Minnesota (2004), St. Louis (2005-2006) and Seattle (2007) systems.

In four major league games with the Red Sox, Díaz posted a .286 batting average (two-for-seven) with one home run, two RBI, two runs, one double, a .375 OBP, and a .857 SLG.

From 1997 through 2007, Díaz has made 828 minor league appearances, hitting a .286 average (810-for-3020) with 175 home runs and 550 RBI.

Trivia

*On June 23, 2002 Díaz connected his only major league home run (a two-run shot) off Dodgers pitcher Andy Ashby. Los Angeles defeated Boston, 9–6, at Dodger Stadium.
