- Repairable
Repairable is a term used by the
United States Armed Forces for certain types of material. Generally these items are expensive hardware components for military equipment. They are called repairable because when they break or wear out, the servicemember will turn this item in for repair at a maintenance facility where it will be fixed or reconditioned to be issued again. The service unit receives funding credit for turning in these items.A repairable item is defined is an item that can be repaired and reused such as an aircraft generator or radar receiver, as opposed to a consumable item which can be used only once such as a bolt or wire. In the Navy/Marine Corps supply system repairable items are identified with certain two character cognizance symbols (COG's)and one character Material Control Codes (MCC's)
In United States Marine Corps Aviation Repairables are managed by the
Repairables Management Division of the Aviation Supply Department.
