- Minister for Sport and Tourism
The Minister for Sport and Tourism was a
junior minister in theDepartment for Culture, Media and Sport of theUnited Kingdom government , with responsibility forsport andtourism inEngland . Since the29 June 2007 reshuffle, carried out byGordon Brown , the role has simply become that of Minister for Sport. The position is held byGerry Sutcliffe , who replacedRichard Caborn when he took the decision to step down. Parliamentary Under Secretary of State level, and the incumbent is responsible for only the sport portfolio. The position of Minister for Sport and Tourism was previously at the more seniorMinister of State level, covering both the sport and tourism portfolios. The sports minister has at various times previously reported to theDepartment of National Heritage , the Department for Education and Science and the Department of the Environment.Both sport and tourism are
devolved matters, with responsibility inScotland ,Wales andNorthern Ireland resting with the corresponding ministers in theScottish Executive and theWelsh Assembly Government , although when theNorthern Ireland Assembly was suspended, responsibility went to theNorthern Ireland Office .Ministers for Sport
