March 28 ,1872 -August 21 ,1927 ) was a United States Representative from Wisconsin.Nelson was born in
Holmes City Township, Minnesota , and attended the public schools there.Nelson graduated fromHamline University inSt. Paul, Minnesota , in 1897. He moved toGrantsburg, Wisconsin , in 1897, where he worked in banking.Adolphus Nelson was a regent of the
University of Wisconsin 1906-1919 and president of the board of regents 1916-1920.He was president of the local school board 1910-1916, and mayor of Grantsburg 1914-1916, Nelson was also vice president of the board of trustees of Hamline University 1914-1918.He was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-fifth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of
Irvine L. Lenroot and was reelected to the Sixty-sixth and Sixty-seventh Congresses and served from November 5, 1918, to March 3, 1923. Nelson was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1922. He again worked in banking in Grantsburg, Wisconsin where he died and was buried.References
