Marco Tronchetti Provera was born in Milan in 1948 and obtained a Degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Bocconi University of Milan in 1971. He entered the Pirelli Group in 1986 and took operational control of the Group in 1992.
While maintaining his roles in the Pirelli Group, Tronchetti Provera was also Chairman of Italy’s leading financial daily Il Sole 24 Ore (December 1996 to September 2001), a Board Member of Milan's La Scala opera house (October 2001 to September 2005) and chairman of Telecom Italia S.p.A. (September 2001 to September 2006).
At present, he is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pirelli & C. S.p.A., Chairman of Pirelli Tyre S.p.A., and Chairman of holding company CAMFIN which is the major shareholder of Pirelli & C. S.p.A. He is also deputy chairman of the board of directors of Mediobanca SpA and sits on the boards of publishing group RCS Quotidiani S.p.A., Milan’s Bocconi University, football team F.C. Internazionale Milano S.p.A., airline company Alitalia S.p.A., Fondazione Cerba and Eurostazioni S.p.A.. He is member of the executive committee of Italian industrialists’ association Confindustria and also belongs to the International Advisory Board of insurance company Allianz.
Alongside his corporate roles, he is the Honorary Co-Chairman for the Italian branch of the Council for the United States and Italy and a Member of the Italian Group of the Trilateral Commission. He belongs to the Steering Committee of Assonime, an association of Italian joint-stock companies, and the board of Assolombarda, an association of Milanese industrial and service companies.
