She was born to an Ashkenazi mother and Mizrachi father, who originated from Basra, Iraq. Julie opposes the war in Iraq and has demonstrated so with banner reading, "Iraqi lives are precious". She also commented, that the war is "really inflicting terror on people who were already suffering".
