Da Costa has grown for football in Benfica´s youth academy where he played and developed there for 9 years. He transferred then to Sp. Braga ( at the age of 17 years old ) where he started his Professional career and then moved to Italy´s Reggiana. He then went toGreece and had a three year stay atIonikos , Greek first league, before moving toElland Road . Da Costa has also had a loan spell at Larissa where he won the Greek Cup title.Only in the end of October 2007 da Costa finally got his long awaited International clearance to play for Leeds United. Dennis Wise brought him into the squad where he made his debut for Leeds United in theJohnstone's Paint Trophy . In January 2008, Scottish side Falkirk, from the Scottish Premierleague, tried to sign him however financial difficulties halted the move. A long time injured period and sucessives reocurrencies hold him from the pitch and in May he asks for his contract to be cancelled by mutual consent. He got back to Portugal, where, at last, could solve properly his injury issue.In the summer of 2008 Filipe da Costa signed for the current Bulgarian champions,
