Firm History

Fasken Martineau is formally known by the name Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP. This name combines elements of predecessor firms - Fasken Campbell Godfrey, Martineau Walker, and Russell & DuMoulin. Each of these constituent firms had a long and distinguished history. Fasken Campbell Godfrey in Toronto was itself the result of the 1989 merger of two long standing Toronto firms - Fasken & Calvin which began as Beatty and Chadwick in 1863 and Campbell Godfrey & Lewtas which began as Howland & Arnoldi in the 1880s. Martineau Walker in Montreal dates from 1907 and Russell & DuMoulin in Vancouver dates from 1882.

In late 1999 Toronto-based Fasken Campbell Godfrey and Quebec-based Martineau Walker (Montreal and Quebec City) joined to form Fasken Martineau. Shortly thereafter, in February 2000, Vancouver-based Russell & DuMoulin joined in the "merger of equals" to create Fasken Martineau DuMoulin.

In May 2003 Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP opened a "greenfield" office in Calgary, Alberta.

In February 2007 Fasken Martineau Dumoulin LLP merged with London-based Stringer Saul LLP to create the first full-service integrated Canadian-UK law firm. The combined office in London, England was renamed Fasken Martineau Stringer Saul LLP.

Shortly thereafter, in April 2007 Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP merged with Ottawa-based Johnston & Buchan LLP.
