Australian Debating Federation
- Australian Debating Federation
The Australian Debating Federation (ADF) is a body which oversees schools debating at a national level in Australia.
The ADF has eight affiliate organisations representing the eight states and territories of Australia. These affiliate associations are:
* The Australian Capital Territory Debating Union (ACTDU)
* The New South Wales Debating Union (NSWDU)
* The Northern Territory Debating Union (NTDU)
* The Queensland Debating Union (QDU)
* The South Australian Debating Association (SADA)
* The Tasmanian Debating Union (TDU)
* The Debaters Association of Victoria (DAV)
* The Western Australian Debating League (WADL)
These organisations run debating activities within their regions, with the support of the ADF. They are the only organisations the ADF endorses for school students. These affiliates administer the premier school-level debating competitions in their respective states and territories, with the exception of New South Wales, where a number of disparate competitions run in tandem.
The ADF has an Executive Committee which is responsible for the federation's administration and the development of debating on a national level.
The ADF runs the annual Australian National Schools Debating Championships, which is contested by eight teams selected and organised by the affiliate associations, representing Australia's eight states and territories. The ADF selectes five strong-performing students from the national championships each year to form the Australian National Schools Debating Team, which represents Australia at the World Schools Debating Championships.
Over 28,000 students across Australia take part in debating events organised by the ADF and its affiliates each year.
