Robert Warelwast . His surname comes from a single source, one of his successors. He was a relative ofDavid fitzGerald ,bishop of St David's , but the exact relationship is unknown. He held a prebend at Islington in the diocese of London, and wasDean of Salisbury from 1148.Barlow "Chichester, Robert of (d. 1160?)" "Oxford Dictionary of National Biography"] He was consecrated onJune 5 1155 or perhaps onJune 3 .John of Salisbury felt that he gained the bishopric bysimony , and his rule seems to have been unpopular. He brought in a number of clergy from the diocese of Salisbury, and acted as a patron to his successorBartholomew Iscanus as well asBaldwin of Exeter , who was later to becomeArchbishop of Canterbury .He died on
March 10 1160 according to the "Handbook of British Chronology",Fryde "Handbook of British Chronology" p. 246] but other sources just say he died beforeApril 18 1161 . His burial site is unknown.Notes
