College of Engineering and Management, Kolaghat (CEMK) was conceived and planned by Prof. Shankar Sen, an eminent educationist and former vice chancellor, Jadavpur University in the year 1998. It has a campus area of 26.925 acres (108,960 m2) and is located 57 km away from Kolkata within the Kolaghat Thermal Power Plant (KTPP) Township, Purba Midnapur, West Bengal. The College offers full time engineering programmes leading to 4 year B. Tech degree from West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT). All the courses are approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, India. However, the college started off in 1998 with affiliation by Vidyasagar University, Midnapore, West Bengal. The first three batches of Engineering Graduates (1998–2002, 1999–2003 and 2000–2004) from this college got Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) degree from Vidyasagar University. But, in the year 2001 when WBUT was formed, all non-Government Engineering Colleges in West Bengal including CEMK came under its roof.

Courses offered

The college is awaiting the approval of M. Tech course in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems Engineering). Dr. J.K.Das was the first director of this esteemed institution. the Faculties of this institution are good blend of highly motivated and dedicated youth and experienced. Students quality is the best in global scenario. Regular workshop, short term courses, seminar, project assignments sponsored by different Govt. and reputed private agencies.

To College of Engineering And Management,Kolaghat, located in the KTPP campus of Purba Medinipur district, is one of the premier institutions among the new generation Engineering colleges of Eastern India. It is a Government Aided Engineering College. The Institute is also assisted by World Bank under TEQIP-II Programme. Ever since its inception under the aegis of the AICTE the college has already made its presence felt in the technical horizon of the State. The College is affiliated to West Bengal University Of Technology (WBUT).

Infrastructure

West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited (A Govt. of West Bengal Undertaking), a premiere power generation company in West Bengal has provided 26.925 acres (108,960 m2) of land along with the some infrastructural facilities on long term basis which include the Administrative building, College Library, Boys & Girls' Hostels and Staff Quarters.

The Central Library began its existence in 1998. Since then, it has grown in size and content along with the CEMK to take the present shape. All these years, it has been the life-line for the academic activity of the institute. At present, it stands as a modem library with a lot of automation and as one of the largest of all engineering colleges in West Bengal in terms of the number of books and journals.

Central Library serves the academic needs of about 1200 UG students and research scholars, nearly 75 faculty members and about 40 technical, administrative and medical staff of our institute. Besides its services are extended to a number of other organizations also.

The Library resources stand at about numerous volumes including books, back- volumes of periodicals. The journal subscription goes beyond very large number. While all journal subscriptions are available in the present form, some are available in CD ROM form also.

The automated library uses computerization for circulation of books and browsing of some journals. A user is provided single barcoded identity card, The entire book collection is barcoded and important in-house functions like acquisition, cataloging and circulation are automated using the LibSys automation software. Some journals, the journal database and the book database are available on the institute network for browsing purposes. Also the library has license for online access for major journals. This facility has been very useful to the users. This is one of the moderate engineering in West Bengal.
