Ummathoor

Ummathoor

Ummathoor, India, is perhaps a couple of kilometers away from Civil station connected by a bridge called Anankkadavu palam (Palam=Bridge).

There has been a saying "if Malappuram need to wake up, people from Ummathoor need to come and open the Doors of the shops at Malappuram Town" People of Ummathoor are very healthy & hard working, owing to the terrain they live, many have climb up the hill 400 Ft apprx. to buy their daily provisions and vegetables.

It’s assumed that the word Ummathoor takes its origin in the small bushy plant called Ummathunkaya (need to find the scientific name), which had been growing in plenty at Ummathoor for long time, though these plants rare to see these days in the surface of Ummathoor – these plants deserve the credit.

Ummathoor hold the major distinction of being the nearest location to Civil station but don't fall under the Malappuram municipality. It also holds the distinction of being the victims of some of adventures exercised by British forces when camping at present civil station, what was then called Military Barracks.
