Margaret Colicos

Margaret Colicos is a fictional character from the Saga of Seven Suns series of novels by Kevin J. Anderson.

Biography

Margaret Colicos was an xenoarchaeologist, wife of Louis Colicos and mother of Anton Colicos. Magaret and Louis were both intrepid explorers of former Klikiss worlds, and through their research discovered ancient Klikiss hieroglyphs that explained the vast mechanisms of the Klikiss Torch. Because of the success of the Oncier operation, Margaret and Louis were given substantial funds. The Colicos were accompanied to Rheindic Co by the green priest Arcas, the friendly compy DD and the Klikiss robots Sirix, Dekyk and Ilkot. Whilst on the planet, the group uncovered a previously hidden Klikiss city complex. Inside, they found many more hieroglyphs, a strange trapezoidal frame, and -- most astonishingly -- the crumbled remains of a long-dead Klikiss. As they experimented with the alien technology over the next few weeks of their expedition, the three Klikiss robots grew hostile. Having discovered the brutally murdered remains of Arcas, the Colicos no longer trusted the robots and took refuge in the hidden Klikiss city, destroying the ladders so that the robots could not follow.

Their behaviour was explained when Margaret translated the later hieroglyphs of the Klikiss transportal. Margerat learned how the Klikiss robots had long ago slaughtered their masters, and were in league with deadly beings known as 'Hydrogues'. After confirming their theory, the Klikiss robots activated their hidden wings and simply flew up after the helpless humans. Margaret managed to escape through the Klikiss transportal, whilst Louis was murdered. DD, who had tried to defend his new owners, was spared and taken by Sirix for experimentation. Much later, DD was freed of his core programming, and could now disobey orders or even rebel. However, the little compy instead chose to flee from Sirix and his companions (now gathering in their thousands) through a Klikiss transportal. Arriving on an unknown world, DD was reunited with Margaret Colicos.

At the end of Of Fire and Night, Margaret returns (with DD) to Llaro, acting as a reluctant translator for the newly returned swarms of vengeful Klikiss.
