WNCT signed on the air on
December 22 ,1953 . It is the fourth-oldest continuous TV station in North Carolina (behindCharlotte 'sWBTV ,Greensboro 'sWFMY-TV andWinston-Salem 'sWXII-TV ), and the oldest station in the eastern part of the state. It was a part-time ABC affiliate until WNBE-TV (nowWCTI-TV ) signed on from New Bern in 1963.
