History

WNCT signed on the air on December 22, 1953. It is the fourth-oldest continuous TV station in North Carolina (behind Charlotte's WBTV, Greensboro's WFMY-TV and Winston-Salem's WXII-TV), and the oldest station in the eastern part of the state. It was a part-time ABC affiliate until WNBE-TV (now WCTI-TV) signed on from New Bern in 1963. [http://www.wnct.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=WNCT/HTMLPage/NCT_HTMLPage&c=HTMLPage&cid=1031771608790] It was co-owned by Roy H. Park along with the The Daily Reflector and WNCT radio (AM 1070 and FM 107.9). WNCT remained the flagship station of Park Communications until Park merged with Media General in 1997.Fact|date=February 2008

After WJKA-TV (now WSFX-TV) in Wilmington dropped CBS in 1994, CBS programming was seen in the Wilmington area on WNCT, WRAL-TV and WBTW-TV until low-powered WILM-LP in Wilmington affiliated with CBS in 2000. WNCT and those other stations still serve some parts of the Wilmington market that don't get WILM-LP's signal over the air or on cable.Fact|date=February 2008
