"Great Pianists of the 20th Century " was a 200 CD box set released by Phillips in 1999. The box set was comprised of 100 volumes each with 2 cds, that featured 74 different classical pianists. Two volume contained a pair of pianists. The pianists Martha Argerich, Jorge Bolet, Shura Cherkassky, Alfred Cortot, Edwin Fischer, Walter Gieseking, Friedrich Gulda, Clara Haskil, Byron Janis, Julius Katchen, Stephen Kovacevich, Alicia de Larrocha, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, John Ogdon, Maurizio Pollini, and Rosalyn Tureck all were pianists that had two volumes dedicated to them. Claudio Arrau, Alfred Brendel, Emil Gilels, Vladimir Horowitz, Wilhelm Kempff, Artur Rubinstein, and Sviatoslav Richter each had three total volumes dedicated to them. The set as a whole contains a variety of composers ranging from Bach to Mozart.
