- Radipole railway station
Radipole Halt was a railway station serving a northern area of
Weymouth in the county ofDorset inEngland . Opened by the GWR in 1905, it was part of a scheme by the railway company to counter road competition, particularly from Weymouth's buses. Initially served by local Weymouth to Dorchester rail motor and Abbotsbury trains, the station lasted into the nationalised era served by Bournemouth to Weymouth trains on what is now known as theSouth Western Main Line . When built, its two platforms had GWR pagoda shelters but these rusted and were replaced with bus shelters in 1978.When the platforms became unsafe, the cost of rebuilding them could not be justified for a lightly used station barely a mile from Weymouth and so the station closed on 2 January 1984.
