Carel de Vogelaer (1653,
Maastricht -8 August 1695 ,Rome ) was a Dutch painter of theBaroque period primarily active inItaly .He was born in
Maastricht , but Vogelaer moved between 1671 and 1675 to Rome, where he shared a house with fellow Dutch painterAnthoni Schoonjans in de via Margutta and trained or worked in the studio ofCarlo Maratta . Here he was called "Carlo de' Fiori" or "Carlo dei Fiori" for his paintings ofstill life themes such as flowers or game. His Dutch nickname was "Distelbloem" ("thistle flower").References
