website_name =The Old Rectory School is an independent [ [http://www.isc.co.uk/school_TheOldRectorySchool_Brettenham.htm] Independent Schools Council website. URL Accessed July 18, 2008] special school in
Brettenham ,Suffolk , founded in1981 . The school broke with tradition by providing an environment so that children withdyslexia could be taken out of mainstream schools, where their academic learning was being hampered, and given short-term intensive specialist teaching in areas of literacy and numeracy. Once these children acquire sufficient skills they return to mainstream education able to cope with the basic literacy and numerical skills for basic learning. [ [http://www.information-britain.co.uk/showPlace.cfm?Place_ID=24172] Information Britain website. URL Accessed July 18, 2008]Many dyslexic children joining the school have been misunderstood and dismissed as lazy and their attempts at learning often lead to a lack of confidence and poor self-esteem. In many cases children who are generally articulate and apparently intelligent find coping with reading and writing extremely difficult. The programme, which was pioneered by the educationist, Martin Phillips, and his former Danish wife, Susanne Hambro - a qualified dyslexia therapist, is unique in the UK and Europe.
The school provide high levels of tuition and aims to give a secure and comfortable learning environment for children from ages 7 to 14 before they return to mainstream education. [ [http://www.theoldrectoryschool.net/ The Old Rectory School] home page. URL Accessed July 18, 2008]
