Singer andfront man Huw Fitzpatrick wrote this song early 2006 and says he often referred to past experiences when forming thelyrics .The song refers to a girl who is beautiful yet regrettably tarnished and troubled. The song often dips in and out of love/happiness and betrayal/hatred, "Your picture perfect face, The perfect picture of disgrace".
The song's storyline is about a girl who has cheated on a boy. The boy recalls how he trusted her on many occasions and regretfully placed his trust in her hands. The result is obviously a broken heart but hope is found within the lyrics with the lines, "you forced me to find out for myself, your secret bombshell" and ending with the title phrase, "beware of the china dolls". The song is a call out to all men who place their trust in a girl's hands. The song has a hidden message/warning that relationships can often go sour and break your heart.
"China Dolls" is a reference to the tradional Chinese doll whose appearances seem happy and playful on the outside, but are dolls that worship evil.
