Young Labour is an official sector of the New Zealand Labour Party. All party members aged 15 to 25 are part of Young Labour. It was formerly known as Labour Youth.
Young Labour is primarily a policy discussion and campaign group of young people within the Labour Party. It is often called the 'conscience of the party'. Young Labour has in recently worked on the repeal of section 59, and was influential in discussions concerning climate change.
Although not an organisation which leads automatically to a political career in Parliament or within the party, many of New Zealand's Cabinet, including Prime Minister Helen Clark began their political activism in the youth wing of the party.
The Young Labour executive is from all over New Zealand, and has an equal gender balance.
