Alfred Slote (born September 11, 1926) [cite news|title=On This Day in History: September 11, Popular Writer of Books for Children|url=http://www.brooklyneagle.com/categories/category.php?category_id=23&id=15338|work=Brooklyn Daily Eagle|date=2007-09-11|accessdate=2007-10-08 ] is a children's author known for his numerous sports and space novels. His writing has been described as "making space travel seem as ordinary as piling in the family wagon for a jaunt to McDonald's" [cite news|first=Virginia|last=Hamilton|title=Fanciful Worlds|url=http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9F0CE5DD1738F935A15757C0A967948260&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=all|work=The New York Times|date=1981-04-26|accessdate=2007-10-08 ] . Slote's 1991 novel "Finding Buck McHenry" was adapted into a 2000 television film. He currently resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
