"Solanum betaceum", commonly known as Tamarillo, is a small tree or shrub in the flowering plant family Solanaceae. It is best known as the species that bears the tamarillo, an egg-shaped edible fruit.

Description

It grows as a small tree or shrub.

Taxonomy

This species was only placed into its own genus, called "Cyphomandra", but is now included in "Solanum".

Distribution and habitat

The tamarillo is native to the Andes of Peru, Chile, Ecuador and Bolivia.

Uses

Its primary use is in the culture of tamarillos.
