James Manning (minister)

James Manning (October 22, 1738– July 29, 1791) was an American Baptist minister and educator from Providence, Rhode Island. In 1762, he graduated from the College of New Jersey, which later became Princeton University. He was one of the founders of the "College of Rhode Island" (now Brown University) and served as its first president from 1765 to 1791. Brown University's "Encyclopedia Brunoniana" offers a more detailed biography of Manning [http://www.brown.edu/Administration/News_Bureau/Databases/Encyclopedia/search.php?serial=M0100] He was also a delegate for Rhode Island to the Continental Congress in 1786.
