Libingan ng mga Bayani (Cemetery of the Heroes) is a national
cemetery withinFort Bonifacio (formerly known as Fort McKinley) inTaguig City ,Metro Manila in thePhilippines . It was established as a fitting resting place for Filipino military personnel from privates to generals, as well ashero es andmartyr s. Among those buried in the cemetery are most of the defenders ofBataan ,Corregidor ,Leyte ,Leyte Gulf ,Ormoc Bay , the battles off inSamar ,Mindoro ,Palawan ,Luzon , recapured the battles inBataan ,Corregidor in 1945Manila ,Visayas ,Mindanao from the battles of Balete, Besang Pass,Capas ,Antipolo ,Nueva Ecija , Tanay and other Battlefields duringWorld War II . It also contains the nationalTomb of the Unknown Soldier .Former Philippine presidents
Carlos P. Garcia andDiosdado Macapagal are also buried in the cemetery.On the cemetery's entrance it is written: "I do not know the dignity of his birth, but I know the glory of his death"
In 2006, the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) council started exploring alternative sites for Libingan annexes in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Only one has completed so far, the P24-million, five-ha Libingan extension at Camp Hernandez in Dingle, Iloilo.
